THESE RAIDS ARE ANTI-AMERICAN

-America was founded as a land of tolerance, fairness, and justice for all. The promise of America was that people could come here, work hard and succeed. These raids do not embody the principles this country was founded upon; these raids are a symbol of bad policy getting ahead of our American values. - This country was once seen as a land of opportunity that welcomed the contributions of hardworking individual who wanted to come to our shores to make a better life. Through actions like this, we are seen as a country that storms the homes and workplaces of poor men and women of color, rounds them up and kicks them out. These raids present a profoundly un-American vision of this country to the world. - Americans are at our best when we unite across class, race, and cultural divides to defend our shared values; we are at our best-and our strongest- when we open rather than shut the doors of opportunity. - Have you ever seen a raid? What we are talking about is government agents armed with guns and dogs and shackles storming into workplaces and neighborhoods and homes. We're talking about hardworking mothers and fathers whose only desire is to make a better life for their children, being rounded up, separated from their families, and sometimes even from their kids. This is not the promise of America. - Today's punitive, anti-immigrant attacks discredit our nation. Actions such as today's raid are stains on our honor. These Raids Do Not Make Our Nation More Secure - This strategy of getting "tough on enforcement" does nothing to made us safer or stronger. These raids target good people affected by bad laws. - Rounding up hardworking mothers and fathers and locking them up far away from their young children does not make this country stronger. It shatters families and spreads fear and isolation. - Every American wants safety and security, but these raids are not making anyone safer. Using precious federal resources to torment women and children, and shackling hardworking immigrants is not the solution to securing our national borders. Economic/Community Impact - America's prosperity depends on the hard work and commitment of the very families targeted by these raids. America relies on immigrants to do some of our most difficult jobs They struggle to make a living cleaning toilets, preparing food, babysitting our children, and caring for the sick and elderly. It is only fair that we give hardworking and committed individuals a chance for the same opportunities that millions of newcomers have sought our before them. - The only truth this raid revealed is that undocumented immigrants are vital to the local economy. We are once again reminded that our laws do not reflect our reality, and reality will become increasingly grim until we pass comprehensive reform. - Workplace raids punish employers and employees who try to work on the books and benefit the most unscrupulous employers. Raids like this drive workers deeper into the shadows and put them at risk of exploitation. Good People Braking Bad Laws - These raids have targeted men and women who work long hours for a minimum wage paycheck. Why is the most powerful nation in the world squandering its strength and resources punishing hardworking parents whose greatest crime is providing for their families? - The real culprit here is the federal government's continued failure to fix our broken immigrations system. Bad laws will continue to hurt good people until our federal government passes comprehensive and practical reform. In the meantime, this climate of harassment will only create more problems. - We know our laws aren't working, and we know actions such as this have more harmful effect than good. So when are we going to get serious about compressive immigrations reform and stop engaging the tactics that are turning our country away from its principles? This is a Systemic Problem - Everyone knows that we have an unsustainable system, and the vast majority of Americans want it reformed to make sure that we can clear a path to citizenship for the benefit of deserving individuals, understaffed employers and society in general. These raids are the byproduct of a small group of angry, unrealistic, and vocal Americans who do not represent the vast majority on Americans. - This may be "tough" enforcement, but it's not smart enforcement. Knee-jerk enforcement strategies do not work; they breed fear and misery, and distract us from the larger goal of finding a comprehensive and practical solution to immigration reform. - Instead of ripping apart families and destroying local economies, our government should focus on fixing the root causes of our broken immigration system. Our immigration problems will not go away until we find a fair and practical way to bring undocumented workers out of the shadows, and create legal channels for much-needed immigrant workers to come here in the future. The alternative-punitive attacks, family destruction, and harassment without hope- is shameful and fundamentally un-American.
